Palm Village Resort

It is the first time I visited Palm Village Resort Center on Sunday 9 November 2014 with my family and in-laws. Actually, the Palm Village Resort was established in 2009, many years ago, a guard told me. Since its creation, very few people know this, because there was no promotion or advertisement. However, after this information, you have to take a good chance to visit it. I assure you, it can make your life happier.

Where is Palm Village Resort and how to get there ?

Palm Village Resort is located just around 20 kilometers from Phnom Penh, on National Route 2 to Takeo province. You will drive past Kbal Thnal roundabout, then Takhmau Town. Approximately 10 kilometers, you will a signboard indicating the name of the resort, then turn right. From there you drive on the granite road, watching the rice fields and sugar palm trees. And the strangest view that attracts me too much is the vast land digging site that the company buys cheaper plots of land from villagers and sell them out for the new construction sites, either in Phnom Penh or nearby. If no prevention measures from the authorities, the company will dig deeper and can cause danger to the lives of the people.

Well, now we reach the Palm Village Resort. Incredible resort is surrounded by rice field and set amongst sugar palm trees. We drive slowly through the entrance, looking left and right to catch the greenery. We are stopped at a guard post to pay the car parking fee. It costs 2000 riel or $0.5 and 1000 riel for motorbike.

After parking, we are going to find a platform to sit and eat, but no separate kiosks at our wish as we are here a bit late. We are hanging around to look for empty house or kiosk, but no chance, all of them are full with local tourists.

What are we going to do ? Of course we have other option. Rent one of the platforms in range ! There are plenty, no worry. Then we settle here. Some of us sit, or leave to look for and buy food for our lunch.

For renting small platform is $4.5 for weekdays and weekend, and $6.5 for public holidays, small platform can contain around 10 people. For big platform, which can contain around 20 people, the renting is $ 8.50 for weekdays and weekend and $11.50 for public holidays.

Local food mostly barbeque fish, barbeque chicken, barbeque prohok (fermented fish), ant egg, snails, frogs, palm fruit and other seasonal food.

Here and there, we can see segments of the road running to leisure sitting platforms and the statues of some animals and farmers of different activities that we can take pictures for souvenirs. It is noticed that Palm Village Resort has a variety of beautiful accommodation and big and small eating platforms. It also built 20 little houses, equipped with a double bed, fan, closet and private bathroom. This tiny house at Palm Village can be rented at $12.50 on weekdays and weekend and public holidays $15.

For lunch, we may bring our own food, or order from the menu, or buy some delicious local food at a little market just on the left side of the entrance in which they sell barbeque fish, barbeque chicken, barbeque prohok (fermented fish), ant egg, snails, frogs, palm fruit and other seasonal food. For menu in their restaurant, mostly they have Khmer and Chinese food and their recommended food is their barbeque chicken and palm fruit coco soup. But if you prefer food not in their menu, you may also request your own favorite food as long as the ingredient is available there.

Palm Village Resort opens daily from 7am to 5pm, all the rental fee mentioned are only on their operation time, between 7am to 5pm only. But according to the manager, it is possible if you would like to spend the night there, but you need to rent at least 5 or 6 houses. For swimming pool, you just need to pay $2 for a kid and $2.5 for an adult. And for menu in their restaurant, minimum price per pax is around $5.
